We’re proud to share the successful completion of another important construction milestone at the Glowing Star residential development, our 10-story flagship project located in Kalabria, Prishtina.

As we move closer to casting the 1.2-meter thick waterproof structural foundation slab, two critical preparatory layers have now been installed:

• XPS (Extruded Polystyrene) insulation boards along the vertical perimeter of the foundation
• Polyethylene membrane placed between the lean concrete and the structural slab

These layers form an essential part of the building envelope, ensuring both thermal insulation and moisture protection, while also enhancing the performance of the waterproof concrete system.

Benefits of the XPS Insulation Layer:

• Prevents heat loss to the surrounding soil, improving the building’s thermal efficiency
• Reduces thermal bridging, minimizing energy waste through concrete elements
• Protects the waterproofing system during backfilling and structural works
• Contributes to the building’s energy performance and long-term interior comfort

Role of the Polyethylene Membrane:

• Acts as a moisture barrier, preventing capillary water rise from the sub-base
• Allows independent movement between the lean and structural concrete layers, reducing shrinkage cracking risks
• Ensures consistent curing of the slab by retaining moisture during the hydration process
• Creates a clean, non-absorbent surface that supports accurate placement of reinforcement

As we prepare for the upcoming foundation slab casting, this achievement represents a vital step in building a structure that is thermally efficient, watertight, and built to last.
